The Meritxell Project

Sustained Note World is honored to be associated with international singer and songwriter Meritxell and the Meritxell Project. We are excited to announce an upcoming original recording from the Mertixell Project to be released in very early 2008.

Meritxell (pronounced Mah-dah-chell)

Born in Barcelona Spain, Meritxell is the lead singer and co-leader of the Meritxell Project, one of the most original sounds emerging on the world fusion music scene today. Meritxell and co leader Gary Grainger blend a luscious groove of Mediterranean vocals with a cutting edge of Latin soul fusion that is in a class by itself.

Meritxell has performed or recorded with artists that have included, B.B. King, Carlos Santana, Al DiMiola, Billy Preston and Floetry at the Destroit Jazz Festival, Chaka Khan, and R&B vocalist Vivian Green at the Pasadena "SoulFest." Meritxell has also shared the stage with R&B singer Musiq Soul Child, and also Frank McComb and the East Coast All Star Jazz ensemble.

Gary Grainger

Gary Grainger is an internationally recognized jazz-fusion electric bass artist who has toured and recorded with everyone from jazz guitar legend John Scofield, to Maysa, from the acclaimed British jazz/funk/R&B band Ingognito. Gary's experience includes work with Acoustic Alchemy, Nancy Wilson, Pure Soul, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ken Navarro, Marienthal, Slim Man, Nelson Rangell, The WPG Trio, to name only some. Gary performed with Dennis Chambers and George Duke in the Clinton Inauguration Special "Celebrations of Youth." In addition to his busy recording and touring schedule he is co-leader of the highly acclaimed Meritxell Project.

Gary grew up in a very musical family setting in Baltimore, Maryland with some of the most highly respected musicians currently on the scene. His brother Greg is a world class drummer providing the groove for a diversity of artists from Whitney Houston to Acoustic Alchemy. In addition to recording and touring with Greg Grainger, his Baltimore roots also include a long association with master fusion drummer, Dennis Chambers.
